What's the problem?

An historic waterway, one of
Vermuyden's first channels built to drain the Fens in the 1600s and a vital secondary route to link the Great Ouse to the
main UK canal network,
is closed through neglect.

The Forty Foot river (best known locally as Horseway Channel) as far
as Horseway Lock is managed by the Middle Level Commissioners.
  Horseway Lock was refurbished by the MLC in 1985 and is in good working order.


But on the other side of the lock, the 3 km. waterway to Welches Dam is the responsibility of the Environment Agency.
